Details of N3.3bn Allocation to Local Governments in 8years

.... Kano on top, Bayelsa at the Bottom

After the Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) disclosed that a total sum of N3.3 trillion was allocated to Local Government Councils in Nigeria in 8 years, the Economic Confidential can authoritatively reveal how the distributions were made during the Obasanjo Administration between June 1999 and May 2007.

In a table of disbursement created by the Economic Confidential from the Federation Account, Local Government Councils in Kano State which has 44 local government councils top the list of high recipients with a total sum of N191.49bn, followed by the 20 local government councils in Lagos State with N149.39bn, Katsina’s 34 LGCs N139.82 and Oyo’s 33 LGCs receiving N127.36bn in the eight years of first and second tenure of the democratic dispensation.

Those at the bottom of the allocation are Bayelsa’s eight local government councils getting N38bn, the six area councils of FCT got N43bn and eleven local governments in Gombe State received N49bn.

The factors responsible for the allocations include number of local governments in a state, population, internally generated revenue, hospital beds and other social indices. The 13% derivation principles is not applicable to local government but the respective state oil producing states.

The detail of the disbursement is highlighted below.
