Cyber Solution: NASS Urged to Pass Anti-Cyber Crime Bill

The National Assembly has been reminded to expedite action on anti Cyber Crime bill currently with them.

 

Former Attorney General of the federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Akin Olujinmi  made the spirited call to the National Assembly on the anti cyber crime bill in Abuja at the inauguration of the Global Network for Cyber solution Limited-an anti cyber crime and Security solution organization.

 

Mr Olujinmi lamented that the country is yet to have a legal frame work to combat cyber crime despite the fact that the bill was submitted at the NASS before he left office

 

The former minister, who was worried about the increasing level of cyber crimes in the country stated that the bill if passed would have  nipped the crime in the bud

 

Disclosing that it is difficult to prove cyber crime in courts now because there was no Information Technology in place then , the former Attorney General said the bill currently with the national Assembly had been designed to take care of this loophole

 

Even with the passage of the bill, Mr. Olujinmi disclosed that the federal government would still have to train some people in technicalities of cyber crime as he proposed then for the problem to be solved

 

In a presentation on cyber crime and cyber security as it affect national economic growth, Dr Chris Uwaje, a former Principal Consultant to Government of the federation of Nigeria and principal contributor to national IT Policy disclosed a shocking news that the data bank of one of the 24 banks in the country is missing

 

Disclosing that data bank of any organization is the life wire of such organization as it  contained a whole lot of information, Dr Uwaje said the bank, which  name he would not want to disclose had already contacted them  with a view to seen how the lost data bank could be found

 

In his remarks, the Vice President/ Chief Executive Officer of the organization, Mr. Segun Olugbile disclosed that the Global Network for Cyber Solution Limited will assist banks and companies in the oil and gas sector of the economy in checking crimes relating to the internet

 

According to him, the Global Network for Cyber solution is an anti cyber crime campaign and cyber security solution organization dedicated to promoting a safe and secure African IT Cyberspace

 

He said the organization would create African wide anti cyber crime campaign and cyber security solution empowerment events that would help African nations to secure their IT systems and infrastructures connectivity with the global information System Infrastructures

 

Disclosing that the organization would assist banks and companies in the oil and gas sector to start with. The Cyber solution Chief Executive said this would be strongly achieved through their Cyber security Analysis based research and Development, Africa Cyber security globally certified solutions

 

Other events to be packaged include Cyber security international/organizational empowerment training, annual African international conference on Global Cyber security development, solutions and issues, cyber security summits, sectoral based cyber security workshops and interactive seminars all over Africa

 

Through the activities of cyber solution research, cyber solution consulting and cyber solution events, Mr.Olugbile said the organization would work with all IT practitioners and users to research analyze and interpret the cyber security solution of IT infrastructure within the context of their individual needs

 

Earlier, the chairman of the organization board of directors, Apostle Alfred TB William disclosed that internet in Africa is growing swiftly, giving rise to new opportunities in every field one can think of

 

However, he noted that despite this advantage, the internet has a dis advantage of cyber criminality such as Advanced Fee Fraud [419], child pornography, e-mail espionage, credit card fraud, spasm, software piracy etc

 

In Africa , he said internet had exposed us to security risks of information, our businesses, our nation’s critical information to a large and infrastructure that come with connecting global network
