FEDERATION ACCOUNT: The Sharing of N736bn in July 2008
From documents obtained by Nigeria’s economic journal, the
Economic Confidential a total sum of N736bn was disbursed to
the tiers of government as net after deductions in July 2008 at the
monthly meeting of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC)
in Abuja. The total allocation came from accounts of Statutory
Revenue and VAT.
The computed table (below) shows that the disbursements were made to
federal government, states (with their Local Government Councils)
and two revenue generating agencies (Nigerian Customs Service and
Federal Inland Revenue Service).
From the disbursement in July 2008, the highest recipients are
mostly oil producing states of Rivers which received N22.9bn, Akwa
Ibom N16.5bn, Delta N11.9bn, Bayelsa N10.4bn and Ondo N7.5bn. The
highest recipients from non-oil –producing states are Lagos N10.4bn,
Kano N9.9bn, Katsina N7.2bn and Oyo N6.9bn.
The lowest recipients with less thanN7bn in the table are Ekiti
N4.1bn, Nasarawa N4.0bn, Gombe N4bn and Ebonyi N3.9bn. The
Economic Confidential can also confirm other disbursements
in June 2008: Federal N197bn, FCT Councils N1bn. Others include
Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) received N1.8bn and Federal Inland
Revenue Service (FIRS) N3.2bn.
